Biofeedback

Biofeedback is a form of alternative medicine in which people are trained to improve their health by using signals from their own bodies. Bodily functions such as blood pressure, heart rate, skin temperature, sweat gland activity, and muscle tension are monitored to inform the patient and raise awareness and conscious control of unconscious physiological activities.

When the patient is provided with this information through the use of biofeedback they are able to gain control of physical processes previously considered to be automatic responses of the autonomous nervous system.

During a typical biofeedback session, your provider will apply sensors to different parts of your body to monitor your body's physiological response to stress, then feed the information back to you through audible or visible cues. The feedback will allow you to begin to associate your body's responses with certain physical functions and modify these responses as necessary.
